Surf Lakes from a t on Vimeo.
We know! There have been so many stories about wave pools lately! But this one is reaching whole new levels.
It’s more than a pool, it’s a lake. It’s a lake that, if it can raise $500,000 worth of funds donated by you, will be located in Brisbane for your inner city surfing enjoyment.
Unlike the wave parks that currently exist, like Wadi Wave Pool and Wavegarden, it pushes the water out concentrically, from the centre of the pool. They say that it has a patent-pending design on a large central “pump” that creates swell up to four metres high in all directions, which in turn means six-foot barrels and up to 10-second barrels. “The large swell reduces in size to a manageable level (up to 2m) before passing over reefs to create perfect peak breaks, every time. The further the reef is from the centre, the smaller the break.” The ultimate goal is to produce 3600 waves per hour.
In order to get the ball rolling they’ve launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for a large scale, possibly full scale, prototype. They say that if they have the funding, they’ll go to full scale commercial production in 2016.
What do you reckon? After watching the clip above, are you a believer?
